I. Introduction
a. Cars
2 (2011)
b. Thesis:
While the people in the film are actually personified cars, the world is just
like ours. However, the cars appear lighter than they actually are in order to
give them more character.
II. Body
a. Grounding
and realism of world
i.
Opening
1. Ocean
swells quite believable/realistic.
b. Gravity
i.
Finn McMissile vs. Gremlin falling off
oil rig
1. Finn
falls without damage while the Gremlin is totaled
ii. Professor
Z falling out the window and into balloon during London race.
1. Fall
feels lighter than it would actually be. He doesn’t get stuck into the balloon
when in all actuality he should have gotten stuck, making the getaway harder.
iii. Siddeley
the jet hovers at into frame at end of film
1. Jets
can’t hover, but if you observe his turbine jet engines they move which allow
him to hover.
c. Chase
Scenes
i.
Realistic to some degree
1. Chase
when Finn and Mater getting on Siddeley
a. Ground
is wet to allow more sliding
ii.
Unrealistic
1. Finn in Porto Corsa
a. Falling
and Jumping and Racing to get to the camera that is blowing up the racers.
i.
Personifications set aside, cars do not
bounce to make a jump; they need a ramp with enough speed and momentum to make
the jump.
ii.
Finn is going too fast to slide into
corners and to turn into alleyways. He wouldn’t make it; he would crash into the
wall.
III. Conclusion
a. Physics
are broken to create a sense of thrill and suspense in an action-packed film.
