Outline of the First Term Paper

I.       Introduction
a.       Cars 2 (2011)
b.      Thesis: While the people in the film are actually personified cars, the world is just like ours. However, the cars appear lighter than they actually are in order to give them more character.
II.    Body
a.       Grounding and realism of world
  i.      Opening
1.      Ocean swells quite believable/realistic.
b.      Gravity
  i.      Finn McMissile vs. Gremlin falling off oil rig
1.      Finn falls without damage while the Gremlin is totaled
ii.      Professor Z falling out the window and into balloon during London race.
1.      Fall feels lighter than it would actually be. He doesn’t get stuck into the balloon when in all actuality he should have gotten stuck, making the getaway harder.
iii.      Siddeley the jet hovers at into frame at end of film
1.      Jets can’t hover, but if you observe his turbine jet engines they move which allow him to hover.
c.       Chase Scenes
  i.      Realistic to some degree
1.      Chase when Finn and Mater getting on Siddeley
a.       Ground is wet to allow more sliding
ii.      Unrealistic
1.       Finn in Porto Corsa
a.       Falling and Jumping and Racing to get to the camera that is blowing up the racers.
  i.      Personifications set aside, cars do not bounce to make a jump; they need a ramp with enough speed and momentum to make the jump.
ii.      Finn is going too fast to slide into corners and to turn into alleyways. He wouldn’t make it; he would crash into the wall.
III. Conclusion
a.       Physics are broken to create a sense of thrill and suspense in an action-packed film.
